TODAY

Lately I've been feeling really tired coming to work, and I think I need a break.  Life has been really hectic as of late, but slowly everything is going back to somewhat of a sense of normalcy(if that even exist).  I am in the mood to share what I have been listening to today; which really isn't a whole lot, but feel the need to express what's blasting through my speakers.  I am pretty sure most people have heard of this group- Mogwai, a band from Glasgow, Scotland, has released a new album on Matador records called "The Hawk is Howling" which is a bit misleading due to the fact that an eagle graces the cover art.  Anyway, small mistakes aside, this record really says a lot being that it is mostly an instrumental album.  The moods that this band conveys without saying a single word is truly amazing.  It feels like you can paint your own story to the songs and what is even more amazing is that each time you listen to it, it gets better and you start to have favorites.  For instance, one track that grabs me is called "Kings Meadow" and the opening track "I'm Jim Morrison I'm Dead, is pretty strong as well.  The middle of the record has a song that was trying something different, but feels like it drags and not quite sure what to do with itself once it gets to the climactic point, and honestly in my opinion, that is a very minor problem with this record.....  I mean after that track ("The Sun Smells Too Loud" is the name by the way) it gets moving without hesitation.  I read a review of the record at Pitchfork.com and they rated it kind of low, but I love this band anyway and I had to listen to it for myself.  I am not someone who solely goes off of reviews but some of those guys and gals at Pitchfork do have some insightful things to say about how they view and listen to an album.  Well Heroes on G4 is calling me so until next time, blessings and love.
